Instruct a virtual student first.

The OJTI or STDI endorsement, taught fully online and almost fully self-paced, with practice sessions led remotely by a Lektor instructor.

For experienced controllers moving into instruction, and open to AFISOs and ATSEPs. The course covers the knowledge, skills and attitudes a practical instructor needs, and passing it enables the OJTI or STDI endorsement on the ATCO licence under (EU) 2015/340.

About 32 active working hours of online study, then practice in the Instructor Skills Trainer, a virtual ATC training context, in sessions scheduled with a Lektor instructor. The course starts when the candidate is ready, for one trainee or a group.

The course, question by question.

Who is it for?
Experienced air traffic controllers preparing for an OJTI or STDI endorsement. AFISOs and ATSEPs are welcome on the course as well.
How is it delivered?
Fully online and almost fully self-paced, about 32 active working hours. Study modules mix Lektor's own video content made for ATC training with curated public videos, articles and podcasts. Forums, quizzes and assignments keep the participant working rather than watching.
Is there practical training?
Yes. Lektor built the Instructor Skills Trainer, an interactive app that creates a virtual ATC training context. Participants practise instructing in it, in sessions scheduled with a Lektor instructor and delivered fully remotely.
What does it cover beyond the regulation?
The structure is built around the learner's success: how an instructor's choice of technique affects learning, how fatigue and stress affect it, how to create the conditions for motivation, and how to communicate with trainees and colleagues. It goes beyond the bare regulatory minimum.
When does it start?
When the candidate instructor is ready, and there is always room on the course. It runs for a single trainee or a group, fully from the participant's own location.
What happens after?
A Training Report and a Training Certificate stating the practical instructor endorsement, used to apply for the endorsement on the EU ATCO licence.

After the course, a participant can

The objectives meet the (EU) 2015/340 requirements for applying for the OJTI or STDI endorsement.

  • Recognise how fatigue and stress affect learning.
  • Create the conditions for motivation.
  • Apply a positive, student-centred approach and explain why it improves learning.
  • Communicate effectively with trainees and other ATC staff.
